Leader of the Islamic Revolution praises ‘The Situation of Mehdi’

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei lauds award-winning Iranian film ‘The Situation of Mehdi’.

The feature grabbing the Best Film award at 40th Fajr fest narrates the story of an Iranian hero in the Iraq-Iran war.

Peyman Jebelli, head of the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB), released a note on Friday that partly reads, “After watching the film, the Leader said the following:

'The Situation of Mehdi’ film was excellent. Full of accurate points with a true narrative. The characters of Bakeri martyrs, especially the backbone of the film Mr. Mehdi, have been properly portrayed and narrated.

The narrative angle of the film was also innovative, especially with a focus on home and family.

Some parts, such as 'Mr. Mehdi's encounter with his family, … are full of important points. This movie is one of those that one would like to see again the moment it ends.”

‘The Situation of Mehdi’ gained a number of awards and nominations besides the title of Best Film at the 40th Fajr fest.  It narrates the last days of Mehdi Bakeri, Iranian general of the Iran-Iraq war and his soldiers.

What make the flick quite special are the dialogues in Turkish with Persian subtitles. Considering this peculiar, ‘the Situation of Mehdi’ is the first Turkish language Iranian film to win the Best Film award at Fajr fest.

Actor-turned-director Hadi Hejazi said about the dialogues in Turkish that most soldiers under Martyr Bakeri’s command in Iraq-Iran war spoke the Turkish language, adding, "The use of the Turkish language added more credibility.”

The hero is highly revered as one of the greatest Iranian war heroes. Bakeri Expressway, in western Tehran, has been named after him.
